Texas Ram Hunt - Kerrville January 29th

So, I gifted myself with a Hornton 175 Legacy Crossbow for Christmas. I basically needed something to take these Axis Deer on the front porch of the Texas Hunt Lodge other than a High powered Rifle...there are too many houses near us and everyone freaks when they hear a shot.
Well, yes, I took an Axis last weekend, Saturday, when Kris, Megan, and Edi came to visit from Houston...good shot, but it took about 25 minutes to die, which I hated.
Then, yesterday, I had an opportunity to take a Corsican Ram out on the Smart Ranch in Mountain Home. Originally, I was up in a Tripod Blind over-looking a feeder. My Dad has the entire hunt on Video as well as photos. I missed the first shot at about 30 yards I think because I wasn't used to an elevated shot.
I then climbed down from the Tripod, and took another shot, and wham, perfect. But, again, he didn't just die. It took another 2 arrows and 15 minutes to put this guy down. I think from now on, while bow-hunting, I'll take a pistol for back up so that they don't suffer any.

2009 SCI Show Exibit January 26th

We went to the 2009 SCI Show up in Reno last weekend. There were around 22,000 hunters present, all booking hunts, so we are definitely going to be a part of the show next year. Some of the largest Whitetail, and coolest Exotic mounts you've ever seen.
It will be a ton of work...long days on your feet, but it should book us up for all of next year's big hunts.
The Hunts are doing well these days...I just booked (2) more today...Monday's are always the best days to book up hunts. We currently have some Rams hunts, Axis Doe Hunts, and Trophy Axis Hunts scheduled through May right now.

My Dad and I are finishing up the 2nd phase of the Hunt Lodge now. We'll be adding another 1000 square feet to the existing 1500. It will have another bedroom, Bath, and 4 more beds, as well as a large living area with Dart Board, hopefully a Pool Table before long, and a laundry room.

Other than work; it looks like it might rain today...we need it very much...everthing has been dry here for the past 5 months. I forget what grass looks like.

January 13th

We've had a busy month so far...We've started on the 2nd phase of the Hunt Lodge (I finally posted pictures of the first phase on our website). The lake is getting ready to fill up...so, as soon as winter is over, and we have some water, we'll get some great photos of the lake on the site as well.
Texas Youth Hunt Boys
Ralph Bulkley with Whitetail I took my dad and some of the boys hunting this past week. My Dad shot a spike, and Aaron De Leon took a doe. This was the first deer for my Dad in probably 30 years or so, and the first ever for Aaron De Leon.

Hunting season for whitetail comes to a close this weekend, so from here on out, it will be just for exotics.
So, we had another newspaper write up about the Hunt Lodge last week. You can view it online here: West Kerr Current Article
and the latest breaking news...
I've started another company, a Non Profit Organization, Texas Youth Hunt. The website is under construction...should be completed by the end of the week hopefully, a rough version anyway. The website is www.TexasYouthHunt.org. The Mission of the new company is "To Give disadvantaged Texas Youth, aged 10-16, an opportunity to Hunt; Inspire Kids to learn Wildlife Conservation, Preservation, and Hunt Safety." I'm working on building a Board of Directors now, so if you're interested, please let me know ASAP as I have to file for the 501c3 (Tax Exempt Status) in the next couple of weeks. We will be raising money throughout the year to take kids hunting and furnish them with rifles, clothes, lodging, guides, etc for this next fall. The big fundraiser that I have planned will be a Wild Game Banquet held in Kerrville, possibly in the late summer. We will also be looking for Volunteers to assist with fundraising efforts if you don't want to make too big of a commitment, but would still like to help. Anyway, shoot me an email (top left corner of the page "Email Me") if you're intersted.

January 2nd

Business is going great...we had a write up in the Kerrville Daily Times today about the hunt lodge...you can find it online here: Kerrville Daily Times Article. It's a nice piece about how the kids helped me build the lodge.
Texas Hunt Lodge Foster Boys
We have 2 clients down in Lytle today whitetail hunting, and 2 clients just arrived to the Hunt Lodge as well whom I'm about to take Axis hunting in a little while. Joanie is doing the cooking tonight, and cleaning, so we're both busy this weekend.

The New Year's party was a blast...we had about 20 people or so show up. Jason D and I won about $20 playing WI Bowling, and then I took another $100 off people in poker. Alden was a close 2nd in both tournaments that we played...hey man, I tried to split it with ya!
