November 17th

Got back from the deer lease today out in Tarpley, TX. I hunted Saturday evening, all day yesterday and then again this morning. I didn't see anything from the hunting blind on Saturday, but as I was driving off in my truck, I spotted a couple of doe, and took one from the back of my truck at about 80 yards.
Texas Hunt Lodge - Big Wild Boar
Then, Sunday morning, same deal, no deer, hogs, nada...I changed hunting blinds last night, and again, nothing came up. When I say, "nothing came", let me explain...I'm sitting in a 4 X 4 plywood box, outside in 30 degree weather, quiet as a mouse for 3 hours at a time....and nothing but birds and racoons would make themselves visable to me. Well, as I was walking back to my truck last night, I passed a little watering hole, and at about 45 yards in front of me, I see a big black "something" running towards the water. I raised my gun instinctively, and once I heard that sucker grunt, I knew that it was a big wild boar, and that I was about to try to put a .243 bullet behind it's ear, which you may notice I did successfully from the picture above...check out the 2 - 2.5 inch cutters on that guy.

So, we got back this morning, and my Dad and I skinned and processed the animals for a few hours...we made about 30 lbs of Breakfast Sausage, which I've never done successfully before. I'll let you know in the AM how we did...if it sucks, we'll just use it for Spagetti meat and feed it to guests.
Anyway, I'm going to bed now, 7:55pm, 'cause my lungs and nose hurt from inhaling concrete dust this afternoon...we were grinding down the concrete countertops in the Texas Hunt Lodge accommodations, and that shit goes everywhere and get's into every little crevice.
Oh, and for the record, I'm cheering for Texas Tech this weekend at Norman against OU...currently OU is a 6.5 favorite, but I think it will be closer to 3-4 by the end of the week.

Joanie and I are going hunting today. She just bought her first hunting license and is hoping to shoot a big one.

It's supposed to be in the upper 20's tomorrow, so the deer will definitely be moving. Check back on Monday for results of the weekend. Also, please make sure to refer your hunting friends, or your Bed & Breakfast-hopping friends, over to the Texas Hunt Lodge. We'll be opening to non-hunting guests at the end of the season and are booking reservations now. The online booking system should be in place within the next couple of weeks.

Also, if you're interested in a French Culinary Cooking class, Youth Hunter Education Class, or a Quilting Class, we will be hosting weekend camps at the hunt lodge this summer.

I had some Hunting clients in town this weekend...actually, they're still here, down in Lytle, TX now hunting Whitetail Bucks. We took (2) Trophy Elk and a nice Red Stag Friday night.

I got to do a bit of hunting myself this morning...saw a couple of whitetail, but didn't shoot anything...it's still early in the season and the big bucks don't get moving for another couple of weeks. I think I'm heading back out to the lease tomorrow after I meet with my hunting clients. The new hunting lease that I'm on in Tarpley, TX is about 1000 acres and has whitetail, Turkey, Aoudad, and some random Blackbuck and Axis mixed in.

So, business is good right now, the Hunting business anyway...just trying to still get the Southern Sports Travel website launched...shouldn't be long now.

Adios Bush!
Adios Bush
It's 2:30 am and I can't sleep, so here we go on the recent election...

Well, I'm fairly happy with the Presidential Election Outcome. I personally did not vote because 1) I moved back to Texas recently, and just renewed my Driver's License about 2 weeks ago...too late to register to vote for this election
and 2) Texas is a republican state, so my vote was already decided for me,
and 3) I didn't really care which candidate won as both are satisfactory to me.

It's funny listening to people's ideas yesterday on the forgone conclusion of Obama being elected as our new President...I was out getting the Propane refilled on my hunting trailer and the man refilling the tanks told me "If that damn Osama Obama gets in, we're not going to be able to own guns anymore". Are you kidding me? If this is truely a valid argument that a dumb-ass-small-town Texan has against a black guy with a funny name becoming President, than his uneducated and mis-informed ass deserves to be miserable for the next 4 years and deal with it. For the record, I do not believe that to be true...it's unconstitutional by the way.

I do however believe that in the next 4 years we will see some drastic changes including new citizenship of millions of Mexican immigrants that are already in Texas, tighter restrictions on Hand gun purchases (hand guns only), unbelievably high Tax rates for small business owners, the retiring of all public images of the Confederate Flag, the formation of more jobs on US Soil, less imports from foreign soil, more kids in college due to public finance, Much Cheaper Gas Prices (we already see this), a better attitude from Foreign Nations towards Americans, the implementation of a College Football Playoff, etc.

So, all in all, yes I think we're much better off with our new President despite some areas where I strongly disagree with his policies and ideas. In the long run, if I have to pay a little more money in taxes each year for a better life, then I believe that it's a good trade-off. Before you think I'm a crazy liberal, let me clarify. Yes, with Obama now as President, I believe that we will see payroll and income taxes go up for people like myself, i.e. small business owners making between $102K - $250K per year. Rather than the average 28% income tax that I'm used to paying, my new tax rate will be closer to 60%. This isn't the first time that we've paid this type of rate though...we paid 70% under Jimmy Carter, and 50% under Reagan, and it doesn't mean that you actually pay that amount...you just need to become more creative in how you declare income which is much easier for small business owners than a CFO working for a medium sized corporation or a Corporate Sales Rep.

Anyhow...I look forward to a new change in America, and as long as it doesn't affect my Deer Hunting or accessibility to good Mexican food, I'm a happy citizen for now.

On a separate note...Southern Sports Travel is nearly ready to go live...stay tuned for your new Ticket and Travel destination.
